Daniel Deedman

Daniel married Susan Newman, a girl from the Forest of Dean. It might seem strange for a man born in the village of Normandy in Surrey to meet and marry a girl from Gloucestershire, until you reflect upon the nature of the sawyer's life. Many were journeymen, travelling great distances to where the work was to be found. This, of course, meant where there were trees to be cut and the Forest of Dean has plenty of trees. The couple had eleven children, shown below.

Susan died before the 1881 census, for by then Daniel had remarried to Rebecca, a girl from the Hampshire village of Tadley. The census records Daniel and his wife to be living with his son Henry, both men occupied as farmers. Unsurprisingly, there were no children from Daniel's second marriage.
